Yoga Retreat Instructor

Is getting an instructor absolutely necessary when you go on a Yoga retreat?

The short answer to this is - it is a must that you get one - especially for beginners. Most Yoga retreat packages should come attached with instructors.

As a matter of fact, besides the location of the retreat, the next most important thing to consider would be the identity of the Yoga instructor. Whoever is guiding you through what should be some of the most spirtually-fulfilling days of your lives is very important. You should make an effort to find out from the Yoga retreat organizer who the instructor is before signing up. Do not be shy to ask for his resume and experience. Saying this, it is quite safe to say that if the organizer is renowned and endorses the instructor, he is probably good at his practice and capabilities.

If you want to be doubly safe, you can do a search on the internet for the instructor's name. See if there are any reviews on his lessons and check out his website if he has one. See if there are any students' testimonials.

Sometimes the instructor may be very well-qualified, but maybe you just don't feel comfortable his style of teaching. Such situations fo occur. To mitigate such risks, you can see if he conducts any classes locally and join them. You should be able to tell if you like his style or not with one lesson or two.

If you are not convinced that this instructor can perform up to your expectations, do not hesitate to walk away.

Of course, the best case scenario would be to sign up for a retreat with an instructor you have attended yoga classes with before. This is for you to have a better confidence that their teaching style and approach will meet your needs.

Yoga retreats provide the opportunity for an instructor to get a good sense of your strengths and weaknesses. In this way, he would be able to guide you better. This is very beneficial for you in the long run.

In essence, you really want to find an instructor whose style of practice and system of yoga aligns with your needs so that you can get the most out of your retreat experience.
